Presidential Candidate Broadcasts: Memorable Moments

The 4 Tans have given their Presidential Candidate Broadcasts in 4 languages.
Some dubbed, some in their own voices.
Some good, some bad, some ugly. Some a joy to watch. Some painful.
We review the broadcasts, Oscar style!
CHECK THIS OUT
Tony Tan wins the Best Second Language Performance for his valiant effort to speak Mandarin despite being a Peranakan. We, together with all the Mandarin speakers of Singapore, felt the pain too.
As consolation, Tony does get Best Breakthrough Performance of the night. Given his stiff and formal public image, who would have thought Tony Tan had the range of emotions which he displayed in the English speech? If Tony keeps up the fire, we might see a real contest after all!
Tan Jee Say did a good job delivering a campaign speech, with much of the content from the General Election a few months ago. However, Jee Say comes across better when he is loud and fiery. He toned it down too much for the broadcast.
But all is not lost! The campaign has only started.
For this round, Jee Say wins the Best Understated Performance award.
Tan Kin Lian comes across as a little stiff, but picks up momentum during his Mandarin speech. Arguably the best undubbed Mandarin speech of the lot.
There is a certain grassroots charm to Kin Lian’s style, even if it is stiff.
Tan Cheng Bock’s speech was soft-spoken, but made hard-hitting points. In particular:
“In recent times, there is a growing desire for a clear distinction between the Government and the Office of the President. This is because the President has to check on the reserves and key Civil Service appointments.
I agree with these sentiments. Familiarity breeds the potential for compromise and this will only work against the interests of all citizens.”
This is man who isn’t going to compromise on his beliefs, including his plan to kick the Prime Minister’s Office out of the Istana. There goes PM Lee, all the PMO Ministers, Emeritus SM Goh and Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s assistants.
Remember you heard it from us first, when we said Tan Cheng Bock as President would bring some major league ass-kicking and combat! Once the PM is kicked out of the Istana compound, the Ministers and MPs will be next to feel Cheng Bock’s Mighty Hand!
For this reason, Tan Cheng Bock gets our Best Martial Arts Production award!

As for our personal leanings, we leave the readers to decide. Some say we are giving too much support to Tan Jee Say, especially our articles on his independence from PAP, his PPS role and Nicole Seah’s endorsement.
TAN JEE SAY IS A BAD MAN! WHO CAN BE THE BEST CHECK AND BALANCE TO THE PAP? NOT JEE SAY! NOT THE SDP! BUT OUR GLORIOUS WORKERS’ PARTY!
JEE SAY LOST HOLLAND-BUKIT TIMAH! OUR PARTY WON 6 SEATS! WHAT DID JEE SAY WIN? NOTHING. NO TO JEE SAY. YES TO WP!
