Post-PE2011: On 4-way fights, run-offs and predictions for the future

The 4 Tans and 4 Mrs Tans

The PE2011 has come and gone. Analysts will dissect and speculate for years to come.

We will be going quiet for now, having (in the words of one email) “brought a breath of lighthearted fresh air and commentary”.

But before we go, here are a few juicy thoughts:

  • What kind of result do we expect in a 4-way fight?
  • A look at the American Presidential Election of 1912 which was a 4-way fight.
  • Can a run-off election be more democratic than first-past-the-post?
  • Our predictions for the future!

Tony Tan’s MRT controversy: old newspapers analyzed

"You are putting words in my mouth!"

You can’t please everybody. First we got accused of being too pro-Tan Jee Say. Then somebody said we were being a bit harsh on Tan Cheng Bock. And now we have a bunch of Tony Tan supporters going after us for discussing Tony Tan’s son’s medical PES status in NS.

To bring Balance to the Force, we are now going to put out an article that debunks a myth about Tony Tan.

NB: Nobody has sued us or told us to do anything. We are doing this because we are nice people and even Tony Tan deserves a break from being deep fried once in a while!

Tan Cheng Bock & women in medical school: CB Tan, or MCP Tan?

Tan Cheng Bock

An irate reader SarahC has come forward to share about Tan Cheng Bock’s days at medical school and his attitudes towards women:

Cheng Bock was very unhappy that the top students were women. Doubly so because Cheng Bock needed to repeat some of his modules in medical school as he couldn’t pass the exam, and needed around 7 years to complete!

How true is this?

SCOOP: Tony Tan’s son’s medical PES status – hear, hear?

Hear today, gone tomorrow?

One of our readers GreenMan has written in, claiming to have information about one of Dr Tony Tan’s son’s medical status in SAF.

Apparently one of the sons of Presidential candidate Tony Tan has some kind of hearing impairment. To quote GreenMan:

The poor bugger struggled on despite his hearing impairment and PES C downgrade. He sometimes had to wear additional hearing protection which made it even harder for him to hear instructions.

Thankfully he never opened fire at the wrong time. Imagine if he misheard instructions and shot the wrong way. Or misfired when he was supposed to stand down.

I am bloody glad he got sent somewhere that hearing the wrong thing wouldn’t get anybody killed!

Could this possibly be true?

Alternative Tan Cheng Bock Istana song: stuff from our mailbox

Dr Tan Cheng Bock

Reader Hwei sent this YouTube video to us. While on Facebook, she clicked her way to this video (not X-rated).

One cannot help but feel a bit paiseh for Dr Tan Cheng Bock, but some might argue that you haven’t made it big in politics until you’ve been the subject of a full-blown satire.

Sarah Palin had her Tina Fey. British prime ministers had the TV show Yes, Prime Minister.

Now Cheng Bock has his Istana song. Watching it, you won’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Battle of the Endorsements: Sharon Au vs Nicole Seah?

Sharon Au

Tan Kin Lian supporter KL4EVR has highlighted a tweet by 147th media Straits Times reporter Tessa Wong, who posted around 11pm tonight:

“Wah. Sharon Au speaking at Tony Tan’s rally tmrw.”

A quick search on Twitter about “Sharon Au” yields a variety of opinions, ranging from admiration of her ability to write in French (!), her looks, and the occasional negative opinion.

How should we interpret these multiple endorsements? Will they really make a difference for Tony Tan, the way Nicole Seah has helped Tan Jee Say? Or is it all window dressing?

Tan Cheng Bock – SPAM, toilet seats and privacy

Coming soon to a handphone near you

Many Singaporeans this morning were woken up by a SMS message from Tan Cheng Bock’s campaign.

Quite a few hadn’t given their handphone numbers out.

Some, like Tan Jee Say supporter JessicaK, found it “a violation of privacy”.

Others, like Workers’ Party youth leader Lee Lilian, thought it was “Impressive!”, according to her friend who retweeted her.

What does the SPAM tell us about Tan Cheng Bock and his campaign advisors?
